2023 Israel Study Tour: Day #12

From Jerusalem to Tel Aviv

Although it was our last day in Jerusalem, there was still much more to learn about this ancient and fascinating city. First, he headed back to the Old City to visit the supposed sites of King David's Tomb and the Last Supper. Next, we visited the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, wading through the Sunday crowds to see some of the sites sacred to Christianity and learn more about the connections of that religion to Judaism. 

Our last stop in Jerusalem was on the Mount of Olives, where the students were able to participate in the Temple Mount Sifting Project and learn something about the archaeological of the city. Sorting through buckets of rock and other debris, the students were on the lookout for bits of pottery, plaster, glass, metal, bone, and other interesting artifacts. One group even found an intact arrowhead. 

Goodbye, Jerusalem. Hello, Tel Aviv. After a relatively bus ride, we arrived in this first Hebrew city. We stopped first at Balinjera, an Ethiopian restaurant, where the owner told the story of Ethiopian Jews in Israel while the students sample some of the delicacies served at her restaurant. At the end, she even gave the students some dance lessons.  

We stopped off at the beach to catch some of the evening sun, enjoy the views, and learn a little about the city. Tomorrow will be a full day of exploring Tel Aviv.
