Darchei Hausner—our Way of Hausner—is a set of core values we instill in our students, guiding them to become their best selves as they grow and thrive throughout their journey at Hausner.
We focus on:
- כבוד (Kavod)—Respect/Honor
- ענוה (Anavah)—Humility
- ערבות (Arevut)—Responsibility to the Community
We expect everyone in our community to strive to embody these character traits, or middot. Together, we work to be our best selves.
At Hausner, academics are vital and these middot help to foster the value and purpose of that learning- and also a place to grow as a whole person. Throughout their time here, students are encouraged to reflect on their actions, build meaningful relationships, and take responsibility for their roles within the learning community and community at large.
A key part of this growth is recognizing and celebrating the positive qualities in others. The Darchei Hausner Award in the Upper School allows students to focus on their peers' strengths and moral successes. By nominating their classmates for this award, students actively participate in acknowledging the development of middot such as Arevut (Community Responsibility), Anavah (Humility), and Kavod (Respect). This practice encourages a culture of appreciation and support, where moral growth is recognized and valued as much as academic achievement.
This focus on values isn't just about individual growth; it also prepares students for a life of service and leadership. By internalizing the principles of Kavod, Anavah, and Arevut, students develop a strong sense of responsibility to others. This foundation sets the stage for their future commitments to community service, social justice, and active participation in civic life. They learn that their actions can make a difference, and they’re encouraged to seek out ways to contribute meaningfully to their communities.
The values we emphasize at Hausner also help students build resilience and a growth mindset. As they face challenges, both in and out of the classroom, they become better equipped to navigate them with determination and a sense of purpose. This mindset supports their academic growth and helps them face life's complexities with confidence and empathy.
These values do more than guide students; they serve as guiding principles for our entire community. Kavod, Anavah, and Arevut tether us to one another, providing a shared sense of commitment and purpose. These values remind us that self-improvement is not just a personal journey but a communal one, where we lift each other and work together to create a supportive, connected community. By embracing these principles, we will create a culture where every member feels valued and motivated to contribute to the well-being of others.
We are inspired by the potential of our students and the people they will become. Throughout their time at Hausner, they will grow into individuals who live these values, not just within our school but in the wider world. We are committed to partnering with families in this journey, ensuring that each student is ready to contribute positively to the world around them.
