We’re proud to take a moment to spotlight one of our fantastic educators in her recent successes. Kindergarten teacher Azriella Friedman was nominated and chosen to be honored by the San Jose Earthquakes as an inspiring educator during their Teacher Appreciation Night event. Selected educators were brought onto the field to receive praise and be celebrated with a ceremony to highlight their accomplishments and the incredible work they do every day.

Azriella’s journey into the Hausner classroom started long before she joined our staff. Her journey began in Kindergarten when she joined our Hausner community, where she studied through 6th grade. When asked about a teacher who made an impact on her, she told us about Cindy, a lower school math teacher who not only helped Azriella overcome her struggles in math but also taught her about finding her own motivation and strength. When asked about the impact Cindy made on her, she said;  “She spent a lot of time with me individually and really helped me find the confidence I needed to grow in the next chapters of my life”.

Her personal growth continued outside the classroom as well, as she mentioned the stark differences of going to public schools without an emphasis on Jewish community. “When I left Hausner, there was this huge contrast in my community. The supportiveness was gone, and I often felt like an outsider, especially when it came to missing school with Jewish holidays”. Judaism remains an essential part of her life, which helped to lead her back to Hausner, where she also now teaches Jewish Studies. Azriella talks about her job warmly, “I love Judaism. Part of taking on the role of teaching Jewish Studies also means I get to experience the crossover of teaching math, while also incorporating Jewish Studies. It’s very fulfilling to see young minds getting excited about Judaism”. Azriella’s love for her students and for Jewish studies flows freely, and her passion for teaching and for Jewish studies leaves Hausner’s hallways brighter for it. We are lucky to have her on the team and celebrate her outstanding recognition by the San Jose Earthquakes!
