There is a unique magic in walking the halls of your childhood school. For Sharon Segev (Class of 2009), a visit to Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School earlier this winter was more than just a trip down memory lane. It was an opportunity to imagine the future for her own family.

We were recently honored to welcome back Sharon (formerly Serper) along with her mother, Milla Serper, and Sharon’s baby son, Emmet. This visit represented three generations of a family deeply rooted in our local Jewish community. Milla, a longtime pillar of the Oshman Family JCC, shared the joy of seeing her grandson in the environment that shaped her daughter’s early foundation.

While Sharon noticed many physical transformations on campus, including updated learning spaces and expanded programming in science, music, and art, she noted that the "soul" of the school remains unchanged. "Returning to Hausner sixteen years after graduating was a truly special experience," Sharon shared. "I loved the opportunity to walk the halls again, and even though many things have changed, the warm, welcoming spirit of the school felt exactly the same."

As a Speech-Language Pathologist, Sharon viewed the campus through both a personal and professional lens. She was particularly impressed by how the school has strengthened its support for student development and student services, noting that it is wonderful to see the continued commitment to meeting students where they are and helping them thrive.

The highlight of the morning was seeing Sharon reconnect with several of her former teachers who are still part of the Hausner faculty today. As she explores the next steps for her 3-year-old daughter, Romi, Sharon expressed her hope that her children will one day join the Hausner mishpacha (family) as students. At Hausner, we don’t just graduate students; we build lifelong connections. Seeing the Serper-Segev family back on campus reminds us that the legacy of a Hausner education truly moves L’dor V’dor, from generation to generation.
