Spotlight: From New Parent to Community Builder

When Amy Moskovitz joined Hausner in the fall of 2021, the school—and the rest of the world—were still navigating the challenges of COVID, and she arrived knowing very few people in the community. Connections began to form around Jewish holidays and school gatherings, and before long, she found herself serving as a room parent. What began as volunteering in her children's classroom soon became one of the most meaningful parts of her family's Hausner experience, as Amy has led Parent Kesher over the past three years.

Parent Kesher, whose name means "connection," creates opportunities for families across different grade levels to build relationships with one another. Amy’s role has focused on bringing people together, coordinating events, and strengthening connections across the community. Parents form friendships outside of their children’s immediate classrooms, while students have opportunities to connect across grades. For Amy, many of the most meaningful moments came not just from the events she helped put on, but also from the friendships she made along the way. When discussing the choice to take on leading Parent Kesher, Amy describes it warmly, “I love school. I love Hausner. So, I love taking care of the teachers. I love connecting families and making sure that everyone knows everyone else and everyone else feels the magic of our community.” One accomplishment Amy mentioned she is particularly proud of was helping change the distribution system of annual teacher appreciation gifts. Through her efforts, Parent Kesher collected the monetary funds of the gifts and was able to distribute a larger gift amount in gift cards of each teacher's choosing. 

As she finishes her third and final year leading Parent Kesher, Amy credits volunteering for helping establish and strengthen the connections she made with the school, fellow parents, and the community. Parent Kesher continues to prepare for its next chapter as a search for new leadership is underway, but has been left with a stronger, more connected community through Amy’s hard work and passion. Amy hopes the program will continue helping families to grow connections and foster the Hausner community she knows and loves.
