Spotlight: Solar Sustainability at Hausner
Hausner Marketing

At Hausner, we are always looking for meaningful ways to invest in the future of our school and community. This year, that commitment is taking shape in a major new sustainability initiative: the installation of solar panels across campus. Led by Hausner parent Mark Gurevich, the project represents years of planning, collaboration, and dedication to creating a more energy-efficient future for our school.

For Mark, the idea began several years ago with a simple goal: helping Hausner reduce rising energy costs. “Electrical costs are estimated at over $200,000 annually,” he explained, with those costs anticipated to continue increasing each year. After reviewing bids and installation plans, Hausner selected Soleeva as the project vendor, who is currently completing a solar installation project for Congregation Beth Am. The installation process is currently being coordinated by Jozef Danis, Hausner’s Facilities Manager and Lower School PE Teacher, who oversees the day-to-day logistics and communication with the installation team.

The new system is expected to have a significant long-term impact on the school. Current projects estimate approximately $250,000 in annual energy cost savings, with a projected four-year payback period on the investment and an expected system lifespan of 30 years. Over those 3 decades, the project is expected to generate substantial net savings that can instead be redirected toward educational programming and student experiences.

Beyond the financial benefits, the installation reflects values that are deeply connected to Hausner's mission. The project supports sustainability efforts and aligns with the Jewish value of Tikkun Olam, caring for and improving the world around us. The solar panel system is also fully owned by the school and can be moved or adjusted if needed.

As installation continues, the project stands as an exciting investment in Hausner’s future, one that supports financial responsibility, environmental stewardship, and the continued growth of our school community for years to come.
